Camp is Open!

Hi!

Well, the day has finally arrived, and the campers are here! Although the day started off very rainy, it cleared up just in time for the first stream of campers to arrive. Seeing the buses stroll down the hill got everyone on their feet waiting eagerly for the buses to come to a halt. And as soon as the doors opened, the handshakes, high fives, and hugs commenced. Looks like camp picked up right where it left off! Even for the new campers their counselors were right there to welcome them.

The afternoon was busy: basketball knock-out games on almost every court, dunking contests, catching up with old friends and counselors, and getting to know new ones. After a great chicken wing dinner (camp tradition for the first meal) was free play where each bunk did an activity together ranging from wiffle ball to newcomb. After free play was Manitou Movies in which the counselors orientation was recapped; it was a good chance for the campers to get a glimpse of all the counselors in action. Following this was taps, a Manitou tradition in which arm and arm we sing a soft song to close the day; new and old, C.I.T. and sophomore, together we sang this. The feeling inside the theater was strong: camp has officially started. The night concluded with milk and cookies, what better way to end the first day?
